I have developed a passion for health & fitness through my 17 years of experience in weight-training. That passion has shaped everything I do today. I grew up as a competitive athlete, which led to me to move to Kansas after graduating high school to attend Fort Hays State University and compete as a NCAA Division II college wrestler. I also had the opportunity to coach high school wrestling for four years. In addition to coaching, I worked as a teacher and educator for a local school district, however, my passion for health and fitness led me to give up my career as a teacher in order to become a personal trainer. With my knowledge and experience in athletics, combined with my philosophy and experience I gained from teaching and coaching, I know what it takes to build real strength both mentally and physically.
I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science because I wanted to understand the science behind the training. That foundation, combined with years of hands-on experience, allows me to design programs that deliver real, lasting results. I also compete in bodybuilding in the Classic Physique division, where I’ve learned how to balance aesthetics, performance, and discipline–– something I bring into every client transformation.

Hello, my name is Derek Johnson. I was born in Oakland, California in May of 1981, and moved to Southern California at the age of 18. I joined the Marine Corps and was stationed in 29 Palms, California, which was not the most pleasant place to live.
After serving in Iraq in 2003, 1 moved to Okinawa, Japan for a short period before leaving the military in 2007. I have been settled in Temecula, where I still enjoy living today despite all this heat out here.
Fitness has always been an essential part of my life. I played basketball and swam in high school and became a martial arts instructor in the Marine Corps. I’ve been passionate about powerlifting for a long time and have since added Olympic lifting to my repertoire. I am certified to coach both, as I enjoy the technicality of the heavy lifts. Recently, I also ventured into bodybuilding, and became an IFBB Pro in the classic division. I work out six days a week, for two hours or more each day. During my youth, I was raised to consume fatty, deep-fried foods, so much so that the fried foods were the only thing I enjoyed eating. This led to being ridiculed by other kids and being labeled “the fat kid.” Due to not only myself but my entire Family having poor nutritional diets, each one of my family members has lifestyle diabetes, hypertension, or other nutritional-related illnesses. The harsh words hurt but growing to realize what diabetes was and how it dramatically affected the quality of life of the people around me lead me to search for help. I explored YouTube to find out how I could live a better life. I became passionate about running long distances, resistance training, and weight loss. Unfortunately, no matter how many blisters or calluses I got, I still had not learned anything about nutrition, so the results I had hoped for didn’t come. Once graduating high school, I met others who mentored me in macronutrients and micronutrients. I was finally able to take control of my health, and it was a freeing experience. Ultimately, I joined the Marine Corps, and I was able to push my mental, physical, and spiritual fitness continuously by building relationships with people from all walks of life.
